WHY YOU NEED TO DISCIPLE

Generally, knowing why you need to do something will give you more motivation to do it.

Here are two reasons why you need to disciple others.

#1-Jesus commanded us to

Pretty straight forward right? Jesus calls every believer to go and make disciples according to the book of Matthew.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

Every disciple is a believer, but not every believer is a disciple-Greg Laurie

Our job to reach the lost is not done once a person gives their life to Christ. We must also dedicate ourselves to invest our time in discipling others, teaching them the principles and the essentials of the Christian life.

#2 Because Jesus did it Himself

What a great example Jesus is to us. He modeled what He wants us to do and commanded us to do something that He already did.

He discipled twelve men who He spent most of His time with. He poured into them, trained them, and lived life with them. Although it's hard to dedicate the same amount of time exactly as He did in our current culture, we must be intentional about prioritizing and investing a good portion of our time into someone. Our duty is to make disciples that will make disciples.

1. You are acting in obedience

When you intentionally invest your time and effort for the purpose of helping others grow and deepen their relationship with the Lord, you are acting out in sheer obedience. God wants nothing more than your heart dedicated to Him and others.

2. You are impacting lives

Some people who give their lives to Christ but do not receive further guidance and direction are at risk of going back or continue to live in their sinful ways. When a person chooses to care and invest in them, their lives can be greatly impacted for God’s glory. Imagine how much influence and difference we can make in the life of a believer, that can in-turn encourage them to do the same.

3. You are being a part of the bigger plan

If you think about it, Jesus discipled twelve men and that was enough to usher in the spiritual kingdom that has lasted for over two thousand years. Imagine how much more impact the kingdom will have if we all took an active role in discipling people in our lifetime? And if we make disciples that make disciples, the spiritual reach is far greater and we are playing an active role in The Great Commission.

4. It keeps you in tune in your own spiritual walk

When we are actively pouring into others and guiding them into a deeper relationship with God, it keeps us in tune in our own spiritual walk as well. We shouldn’t be discipling if we aren’t focusing on being and staying a disciple ourselves. When we are investing in others, we too need to be invested in; whether it be from a mentor or other avenues.
